Bamford and the Peak District

Derwent View is situated at the edge of the village of Bamford within the beautiful unspoilt Peak District. It has charm of its own. The nearby market towns of Buxton, Chesterfield, Bakewell, and Glossop are 30 minutes away by car. Attractive villages nearby include Castleton, Hope, Hathersage, Eyam, Grindleford and Edale.
Bamford is situated in the Upper Derwent Valley and is close to the sites of the lost villages of Derwent and Ashopton, which were demolished when the Ladybower Dam was built. The other two dams, Howden and Derwent reservoirs, further up the valley, are known for their breathtaking beauty.
During the Second World War the Dambuster squadron practiced using the famous bouncing bombs on these reservoirs.
Bamford village has a village green, a small primary school, and a village Institute. There is also a golf course, tennis club, recreation ground, post office, country store, bakery, 2 good pubs with restaurants, garden centre, petrol station, and 3 small churches.
Outdoors pursuits include; fly fishing, pony trekking, gliding and golfing. You can hire bicycles at the nearby Fairholmes Visitors Centre, which is about 1 and half miles away. For cycle hire and guided rides try Peak Tours.
Hope Valley is wonderful for walking and for visiting lots of historical villages. It is an area for world famous rock-climbing and has lots of natural rock formations. Also the nearby village of Castleton is the home of the unique and famous Blue John Stone which is used to make jewellery.
